UAE Expats Can Now Get a Will in 15 Minutes, Without a Law Firm

A new UAE-born startup is aiming to simplify one of the most overlooked aspects of expatriate life: estate planning.

Blanket, a digital estate planning platform founded by lawyer and former Wio founding team member Anton Pirinen, has officially launched in the UAE, offering expatriates a technology-driven way to create wills and powers of attorney through a guided online process.

Designed specifically for individuals and families with cross-border lives, Blanket combines legal expertise, fintech-inspired user experience, and digital workflows to help residents navigate estate planning without the complexity traditionally associated with law firms.

The platform addresses a growing challenge for UAE residents who often hold assets, financial interests, and family responsibilities across multiple countries. According to Blanket, the lack of a registered will can leave families exposed to frozen bank accounts, delayed access to assets, lengthy probate procedures, and court-led guardianship decisions.

Users can complete an online intake process in approximately 15 minutes, after which lawyer-designed templates are used to generate a draft will. Each document is then reviewed by a qualified human expert, translated into Arabic by a Ministry of Justice-licensed translator, and submitted through the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department’s notarial process.

Beyond UAE wills, Blanket also supports estate planning requirements connected to jurisdictions such as the United Kingdom and India, with plans to expand its international coverage over time.

“Estate planning is one of those things people know they should do, but often postpone because it feels complicated, expensive, or overwhelming,” said Anton Pirinen, Founder and CEO of Blanket. “For expats, that challenge becomes even greater when family, assets, and legal obligations span multiple countries. A key differentiator is the platform’s hybrid approach, combining automation with human legal oversight. Every customer is assigned a dedicated expert who manages their case and provides guidance throughout the process.

The platform also includes two additional services: Vault, a secure repository for estate planning documents, and Capsules, a feature that enables users to securely share selected information, instructions, or documents with designated individuals when required.

Blanket’s service fee starts from AED 799, while government registration fees are paid separately to the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
